"Making the Invisible, Visible: The first step..."

The issue I am addressing is about sex trafficking and how many girls/women get trafficked in Asia to join the sex trade. The sex trade is when women get trafficked and tricked into thinking they are getting jobs in different countries when in reality, they are being tricked into the prostitution community and they are stuck there because of the fact they are owned by their owners and they don't make enough money to leave. This is important to me and my community because what we don't realize is that hundreds of women are being trafficked and sent away. For example, two years ago, in 2011, about 600 women were trafficked in Asia. The women were mostly from Malaysia, Uganda and some of them were from Nigeria. This impacts the women of Malaysia. If we could raise awareness, more people would know about this therefore they wouldn't except the offers from the traffickers right away. They would think about it and hopefully, not accept it. Some surprises I have encountered while researching was that a lot of women have been trafficked in Asia and I have never heard about it. This is the first year I have been introduced to human trafficking.  Learning about this issue makes me feel worried and at the same time grateful for where I am now. I am worried for the ones who have been trafficked and the ones who are the next targets. I hope we can raise awareness and people will take part in helping to protect one another's rights.
